Associate Professor Scholarship Essay Contest in Accounting and Control

Job description As Associate Professor you will (co-)design, materialize, manage and execute courses in accounting and related (control) disciplines, supervise students in writing their bachelor and master theses and contribute to the design, materialization and execution of the bachelors in International Economics and Business.

Furthermore, you will conduct quality research (both at an individual base and in the context of group work) resulting in scientific publications in leading academic journals or books, and supervise junior researchers and PhD-students. You will contribute to a bridging of the gap between ‘theory’ and ‘practice’ by creating a network with practitioners, particularly (but not exclusively) controllers and financial managers, and by publishing in professional journals. You are also expected to acquire funds for research projects in coordination with the chair holder, as well as to coordinate such projects.

You will contribute to the management of education and research at chair’s level and beyond, and Initiate and encourage continuous improvement in the academic profile of the faculty, as well as to a further internationalization of the faculty and its educational and research program.

Requirements

You have a completed PhD-study in a relevant discipline. Your past performance in scientific research into accounting and control is evidenced by publications in leading international journals. You possess knowledge of and skills in modern methods of qualitative and/or quantitative research. You are experienced in the supervision of PhD-students and/or other research projects as well as in attracting external funds. You have a Senior University Teaching Qualification or a teaching qualification at a comparable level. You have capabilities to design and implement new forms of teaching and possess leadership capabilities, preferably evidenced by participation in university boards.

Conditions of employment

Applicants from abroad moving to the Netherlands may qualify for a special tax relief, by which 30% of their salary is tax free.

Department

Nijmegen School of Management

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher learning, focussing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organizations in both the public and private domain. There are seven focus areas within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multi-disciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 220 full-time staff, of whom 75% are academics.

Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are offered in the seven fields of study, which are organized in the NSM’s educational institute. The educational program is given by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The Nijmegen School of Management has about 3,000 students.

The research activities of the NSM are governed by the Institute for Management Research (IMR), which has the equivalent of 80 full-time staff members. It focuses on fundamental and applied research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interaction. The IMR’s research has three multi-disciplinary themes: Responsible Organization (ResOrg), Territorial Governance and Changing Meanings of Places (TerraM), and Distributional Conflicts in a Globalizing World (DisCon).
